Choosing the right calculator
- Use the Concrete Calculator or Concrete Slab Calculator for cubic yards of ready-mix.
- Under about a yard, switch to the Concrete Bag Calculator for an exact bag count.
- For a driveway, the Concrete Driveway Calculator defaults to the thicker 5–6 in slab.
- Setting posts? The Post Hole Concrete Calculator sizes bags per hole automatically.
Good to know
Bags vs ready-mix: about 45 eighty-pound bags make one cubic yard. Past a yard, delivered ready-mix is usually cheaper and far less labor.
Concrete & Masonry FAQs
How many bags of concrete equal a cubic yard?
About 45 eighty-pound bags (or 60 sixty-pound bags) make one cubic yard. For pours over a yard, ready-mix delivery is usually the better choice.
How thick should concrete be?
4 in for patios, walkways and shed pads; 5–6 in for driveways; at least 8 in for footings. Structural slabs should follow an engineer’s spec.
